PRE PROCEDURE

  1. Avoid the sun, self tanners and tanning beds 4-6 weeks prior to treatment.
  2. Protect the skin with a sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher.
  3. Purchase Hydroquinone/Retin A cream as Rx by Dr. Broujerdi from the Pharmacy and use for 1 -2 weeks prior to laser treatment.
  4. Purchase Aquaphor Cream AND Purpose Facial Cleanser (can be purchased over the counter at any drugstore) to use post procedure. **You MUST bring the Aquaphor cream with you the day of the procedure.
  5. Fill your prescription for Valtrex, Percocet and Valium and bring with you to your laser appt.
  6. Fill your Medrol Dose Pack or Decadron prescription.
  7. Fill your numbing cream Rx and bring with you to your laser appt.

DAY OF PROCEDURE

  1. We will start you on Antiviral Medication (i.e.: Valtrex).
  2. We will start you on Anti-swelling medication (Medrol Dose Pack or Decadron)
  3. Valium will help to relax you and Percocet will help with pain.
  4. Please be sure to have a ride home from someone over the age of 18.
  5. Do Not wear makeup or jewelry.
  6. BE SURE TO BRING YOUR FILLED PRESCRIPTIONS and AQUAPHOR CREAM WITH YOU
  7. Do not eat or drink anything 6 hours prior to your procedure start time.

POST PROCEDURE

  1. Avoid the sun at all times, and after 7-10 days you will need to apply SPF55 or higher sunscreen and zinc oxide paste every day until otherwise instructed by you doctor
  2. Stop using Retin A, Hydroquinone skin bleaching cream till/if Dr. Broujerdi instructs you to.
  3. Continue taking Antiviral medication for 4 days post procedure.
  4. Begin taking Medrol Dose Pack/Decadron the next day as directed.
  5. You may apply a cool compress of Ziploc bags filled with crushed ice if desired.
  6. You may wash your face 7-10 days after the procedure. Cleanse skin with a mild cleanser such as ‘Purpose’ cleanser AM and PM with tepid water using only fingertips very gently or place a very soft cloth wet with tepid water on the skin – WITHOUT ANY MOVEMENT of the cloth what-so-ever, then very gently pat dry. If you are in any doubt about how to wash your face, it is better not to wash it at all.
  7. DO NOT SHOWER (not even from the neck down) after your procedure until you are seen by your doctor. You may sponge-bathe only.
  8. Apply an occlusive ointment such as Aquaphor immediately after procedure until your doctor advises you to discontinue applying. You may start initially with a test spot to make sure there are no signs of irritation. If irritation occurs discontinue product immediately and call the office. You want to keep treated areas very moist.
  9. Avoid “picking” and scrubbing of the exfoliated skin.
  10. Avoid topical skin exfoliation (scrubs, Retin A, Glycolic Acids) for 4 weeks.
  11. You may apply your normal mild moisturizer and Sun block greater than SPF 55 after 5-7 days.
  12. Mineral Make Up is recommended on new skin after 7-10 days.
  13. A professional skin care treatment is recommended with a Clinical Aesthetician 4 weeks after procedure.
  14. Avoid strenuous exercise and sweating until otherwise instructed by your doctor.
  15. If you are outside in the first several weeks after your procedure you must wear a hat and avoid the sun whenever possible.
  16. If you experience breaking out with acne please notify Dr. Broujerdi immediately.
