About Female Circumferential Body Lift

The Body Lift is to the abdomen (tummy), hips/thighs and buttocks what a face & neck lift is to the face & neck. It addresses the skin slack and laxity in the trunk (abdomen/back) and lower half of the body.

After massive weight loss either through gastric bypass surgery or through dieting and exercise patient will developed loose hanging skin that is circumferential around their trunk (abdomen and back), hips, thighs and buttocks as well as other body parts such as the inner thighs, arms and breast/chest.

The operation removes excess skin and fat tissues in an effort to lift and tighten loose, sagging tissues. It does so by removing skin and underlying fat circumferentially through an incision which is designed to end up being concealable by a bathing suit or underwear, similar to the tummy tuck scar but circumferential. After surgery Dr. Broujerdi and staff will assist you in managing the scar to produce a fine line. The more of the loose skin is removed, the tighter and better the result. This operation does not replace liposuction and often is done in conjunction with it. Liposuction is a method to reduce contours when reasonable skin elasticity is present. But when significant sagging is present, then the excess skin must be removed surgically just like it is done in a face& neck lift, breast lift or tummy tuck. Removing the slack skin (and underlying fat) has a rejuvenating effect as opposed to liposuction where only body contour is improvable. Just as in a tummy tucks the underlying muscles and fascia are tightened up to improve the contour around your waist.

A Circumferential Body Lift will:

  • Remove excess hanging skin around your abdomen and back
  • Improve  the look of your belly button
  • Flatten the abdomen
  • Contour the flanks and create an hour glass contour
  • Lift the outer thighs
  • Lift and fill the buttocks
  • Lift the hanging pubis area

A Body Lift is not a substitute for weight loss or an appropriate exercise program and change of lifestyle. Although the results of a Body Lift procedures are technically permanent, the positive outcome can be greatly diminished by significant fluctuations in your weight. For this reason, individuals must have maintained a close to their ideal body weight for their height, also known as Body Mass Index (BMI). Also, a Body Lift procedure cannot correct stretch marks, although these may be removed or somewhat improved if they are located on the areas of excess skin that will be excised, generally those treated areas below the belly button.

Body Lift procedure is a good option for you if:

  • You have become physically healthy after weight loss
  • You have a stable weight for several months
  • You have realistic expectations
  • You are a non-smoker
  • You are bothered by the feeling that your trunk is hanging
  • You are willing to go through some downtime
  • You have made a permanent change in lifestyle

Your surgery will be preformed as an outpatient surgery, 23 hours or longer admission at an accredited ambulatory surgical center or hospital, this will be determined by your doctor. Dr. Broujerdi prefers patients to spend at least one night at a private nursing facility hotel in Beverly Hills or in the hospital depending on your health status. This will be determined by Dr. Broujerdi and your primary care physician. Our professional office staff will assist you with post surgical care information.  You should expect a minimum of two weeks of down time after this procedure, some patient will require longer healing period. You should stay away from strenuous activity for several months after your surgery to allow complete healing internally as well as externally.
