You will be undergoing a surgical procedure in the next few weeks. There are several points we would like to stress to you that are extremely important.
- Avoid alcoholic beverages for at least 24 hours prior to your surgery.
- Do not eat or drink after midnight the day of your surgery. If you must take medications on the day of surgery, you may take them with a small sip of water.
- You will not be allowed to drive yourself home after surgery. Please make arrangements for a family member or friend, above the age of 18, to pick you up.
- Do not apply any body lotions, creams, antiperspirants, hair treatments, or make up on the day of surgery.
- Please dress comfortably and wear slip on shoes.
- Bring a pillow and blanket for the car ride home.
- Prepare your bed at home with old sheets (in case of any leakage from incisions) and prep your bed with plenty of pillows to prop you up comfortably.
- One week prior to surgery, you may choose to begin taking Arnica tablets (also sold as Arnica Montana). Arnica is a homeopathic remedy shown to help reduce swelling and bruising significantly.
- Dr. Broujerdi would like for you to start drinking pineapple juice 2-3 glasses a day one week prior to surgery this has shown to help reduce swelling and bruising.
- Be sure all of your Pre Operative Lab work that Dr. Broujerdi has requested of you (Blood work, Chest X-Ray, Mammogram, EKG and/or Medical Clearance) has been received by our office.
- Prep your kitchen with plenty of soups, soft foods, liquids (water, Gatorade….) and straws.
- Abstain from taking aspirin, aspirin containing products, or any non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications for at least two weeks prior to surgery.
- If you are a smoker, you should stop completely 6 weeks before and six weeks after surgery. This will help to avoid respiratory complications and to improve circulation to the surgical areas.
