You will be undergoing a surgical procedure in the next few weeks. There are several points we would like to stress to you that are extremely important.

  1. Avoid alcoholic beverages for at least 24 hours prior to your surgery.
  2. Do not eat or drink after midnight the day of your surgery. If you must take medications on the day of surgery, you may take them with a small sip of water.
  3. You will not be allowed to drive yourself home after surgery. Please make arrangements for a family member or friend, above the age of 18, to pick you up.
  4. Do not apply any body lotions, creams, antiperspirants, hair treatments, or make up on the day of surgery.
  5. Please dress comfortably and wear slip on shoes.
  6. Bring a pillow and blanket for the car ride home.
  7. Prepare your bed at home with old sheets (in case of any leakage from incisions) and prep your bed with plenty of pillows to prop you up comfortably.
  8. One week prior to surgery, you may choose to begin taking Arnica tablets (also sold as Arnica Montana). Arnica is a homeopathic remedy shown to help reduce swelling and bruising significantly.
  9. Dr. Broujerdi would like for you to start drinking pineapple juice 2-3 glasses a day one week prior to surgery this has shown to help reduce swelling and bruising.
  10. Be sure all of your Pre Operative Lab work that Dr. Broujerdi has requested of you (Blood work, Chest X-Ray, Mammogram, EKG and/or Medical Clearance) has been received by our office.
  11. Prep your kitchen with plenty of soups, soft foods, liquids (water, Gatorade….) and straws.
  12. Abstain from taking aspirin, aspirin containing products, or any non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications for at least two weeks prior to surgery.
  13. If you are a smoker, you should stop completely 6 weeks before and six weeks after surgery. This will help to avoid respiratory complications and to improve circulation to the surgical areas.
